Visitor Visa Types

Subclass 600 Visitor

The most common option. Covers tourism, family visits, and business activities. Stay up to 3, 6, or 12 months. Single or multiple entry.

Subclass 601 ETA

Electronic Travel Authority for eligible passport holders. Fast online approval, multiple entries, stays up to 3 months each visit within 12 months.

Subclass 651 eVisitor

Free online visa for eligible European passport holders. Multiple entries, stays up to 3 months per visit within 12 months.

Subclass 600 Streams

Tourist Stream

For tourism, holidays, and visiting family or friends. Available onshore and offshore. Most common stream for general visitors.

Business Visitor Stream

For short-term business activities — meetings, conferences, negotiations. No work or employment permitted.

Sponsored Family Stream

Sponsored by an eligible Australian relative. Sponsor provides invitation, accommodation evidence, and financial support documentation.

Approved Destination Status

For Chinese nationals travelling to Australia in an approved tour group under the ADS scheme.

Key Eligibility Requirements

Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE)

Must demonstrate genuine purpose of visit, strong home-country ties, and clear intention to leave before visa expiry.

Financial Capacity

Bank statements, savings certificates, or sponsor support letters showing sufficient funds to cover the entire stay.

Health & Character

Medical exams may be required for longer stays. Travel health insurance strongly recommended. Police clearances in some cases.

Valid Passport

Must hold a valid passport. Passport with at least 6 months validity beyond intended stay recommended.

No. Work is strictly prohibited on a Visitor Visa. Limited business activities (meetings, conferences) are permitted in the Business Visitor stream, but employment is not allowed.
