Washington / Sydney / Dublin Accord
If your degree is recognised under an international engineering accord, your assessment is more straightforward. EA verifies the accreditation directly.
Australian Engineering Qualifications
For graduates of Australian institutions with Australian-accredited engineering degrees. Typically a simpler process than the CDR pathway.
CDR (Competency Demonstration Report)
The most common pathway for overseas-trained engineers with non-accredited qualifications. Requires:

- Summary Statement
- CPD (Continuing Professional Development)
Skilled Employment Assessment (Optional)
EA can assess your work experience to determine how many years count as skilled employment for migration points purposes.
The CDR Pathway Explained
1. CPD Statement
A list of your continuing professional development activities demonstrating ongoing learning and development in your engineering field.
2. Three Career Episodes
Each episode must highlight your personal engineering contributions including technical skills, problem-solving, design/analysis work, and project outcomes. Must be original and in your own words.
3. Summary Statement
A competency mapping document cross-referencing your Career Episodes with EA Stage 1 Competency Standards for your engineering category.
Assessment Process – Step by Step
Determine Engineering Category
Identify whether you qualify as a Professional Engineer, Engineering Technologist, Engineering Associate, or Engineering Manager.
Choose Assessment Pathway
Confirm whether your qualification is accredited under an accord, or if you need the CDR pathway for assessment.
Prepare Documents
Gather educational documents, employment evidence, project records, and CPD records in the format required by EA.
Prepare CDR (If Required)
Write Career Episodes, Summary Statement, and CPD list in line with EA Stage 1 Competency Standards. Original content is mandatory.
Lodge EA Application
Register on the EA portal, upload all required documents, complete required forms, and submit your application.
Receive Outcome
Your result confirms qualification equivalency, any assessed skilled employment, and your eligibility to proceed with skilled visa applications.

8–12 weeks from lodgement of a complete application
Approximately 20 business days (additional fee applies)

Common Reasons for Rejection
Plagiarised CDR Content
EA uses plagiarism detection. Copied or AI-generated content in Career Episodes will result in rejection. Content must be original and in your own words.
Career Episodes Lacking Technical Depth
Episodes must demonstrate your personal technical engineering contributions, not just describe the project or team outcomes generally.
Incorrect Engineering Category
Applying under the wrong category (e.g., Professional Engineer when your degree is 3 years) will lead to rejection.
Weak Employment Evidence
Generic job descriptions without technical engineering detail will not satisfy EA's employment evidence requirements.
Inadequate Project Documentation
Insufficient evidence of project involvement, technical scope, and your specific engineering contributions will lead to rejection.
Competencies Not Demonstrated
The Summary Statement must map Career Episode content to EA Stage 1 Competency Standards. Missing competency mappings cause rejection.
